To me, cooking and eating are recreations. These posts are about my own recreational activities.

Some rice cakes in Korea....
My boss gave me this box full. They're rice cakes, and they have a chewy texture. I feel full after eating only a few of them (2-3). I think I'm going to have to share these with my students, because I know I can't eat them all before they spoil.
"Soju" they call it! "Cheaper than water!"
Not every Korean likes it. I've seen many garbage bags full of empty bottles ready for pick up, so I'm sure many people enjoy it. "Soju" is what they call it. It's "cheaper than water." To me, it tastes like medicine. I don't like to drink it straight up. When I have some (rarely), I'll add a shot to a glass of beer at the beginning of a meal. It's an alcohol made from rice.
Last night, I offered to pay, but they insisted, "No."
This bacon was cut thicker.
Pork skin anyone?
They say this stew is great for hangover recovery. I don't know about that, and I'm in no hurry to test the idea! Still, I think it's delicious. It reminds me of stews made with pinto beans. In Korea, they use soy beans to make it. Some restaurants make it spicier than others.
"Soju" they call it! Cheaper than water at the supermarket, others say! I've seen LOTS of empty bottles in trash bags ready for pick up. To me, it tastes like "Nyquil," and it makes me drowsy just likewise. I'm not fond of it straight up. If I have it at all, I'll add a shot to a glass of beer.

Last night's dinner. It's what I wanted.
The oatmeal thickened while I fried the pig belly.
That's cinnamon on top of the oatmeal.
Oatmeal topped with plain yogurt.
Pig belly topped with hot sauce.

Lunch Today, Wednesday, September 26, 2012
I made the slaw with a bit of chopped Asian pear, cabbage, honey mustard, hot sauce, and a few almonds.
Now I know that chopping those poached eggs up and putting them on top of that slaw was the right thing to do. That's Colby Jack cheese and a thick slice of roasted pork ribs next to the slaw.
Last night's dinner
Spinach and Colby Jack cheese omelet, whole milk, and pumpkin-almond-dark chocolate chip cookie (made from scratch).

Food Diary: Tuesday, September 25, 2012
A couple days ago, I roasted some pork that I covered with chopped fresh pineapple mixed with hot sauce. Today, I made lunch with it. OMG! Delicious!
There some nutrition in there somewhere! Cabbage, mustard, hot sauce, dried blueberries, almonds, pumpkin seeds, tomato, and Asian pear.
